“I,Robot”
by Rashmi on Jul.07, 2008, under Uncategorized
The First Law: A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction,
allow a human being to come to harm.
The Second Law: A robot must obey orders given it by human beings,
except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
The Third Law: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such
protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Sounds very simple,doesnt it?But as often,things arent…..
The way these laws can be interpreted, twisted and the conflicts
between the three laws-I,Robot is all about that and much more.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.
It was after a long time that i really enjoyed a book.
The Wedding
by Rashmi on Sep.03, 2006, under Uncategorized

“The Wedding”-By Nicholas Sparks is one of the most beautiful books i have ever read.I would place it next to “Doctors” by Erich Segal. This book is all about a man’s effort to regain his wife’s love after 29 years of their marriage. The ending almost took my breath away!!!!!!!I think i felt tears in my eyes
Imagine after 29 years you begin to doubt whether your wife still loves you and whether she is happy with you.And then to actually make an effort to woo her back. How many of us would make that effort? He does it and succeeds. And they fall in love all over again. Its so touching and romantic. In today’s world i think romance is almost non-existent!!!Yes!!!Coz ppl have forgotten to be imaginative, romantic.Everything is copied from movies and television. There are million cards in the market with beautiful words,no doubt. But how many actually spend some time and pen down a few lines…?????
Maybe i am just being silly,or maybe all this exists just in books or movies, but i truly believe in love.Though i dont think it will ever happen to me,I am sure the kind of true love i envision exists!!!!
Here’s a toast to love and to the people lucky enough to have found it
.But please dont take it for granted and neglect it and lose it.In this story the guy had a chance to make amends, but not all maybe fortunate enough..WE often realise the true worth of it,once we lose it!!!!!
This book sparked off a few more thoughts.I have seen so many couples married for almost more than 25 years. They are all “happily” married but on close observation u would see that there is no love or romance left there(if there was any at the beginning!!!)I mean,I am not saying that they dont care, they do a lot and perhaps know each other better than any one else. But are they in “love” with each other???I wonder…..Does time erode away those tender feelings?????
Does marriage mean only compromise?Or is it just a means of convenience?
Atleast in India, its like ppl get married coz their parents and society start pressurising and we all succumb to it(that is all those who have not found someone yet) and its mostly a marriage of convenience. For most girls it is a means of financial security and for guys they get someone who will cook, clean and wash for free,24/7.And of course there is the physical part! and then as a result kids…and then their whole world is around their kids. But what abt them?Just them, not as parents, not as sons and daughters, just a man and woman.Where is the love and affection?Does it exist or am i being a sentimental fool to even expect this?
