A story,a past, his present and the beginning of a future.
by Rashmi on Jul.25, 2008, under Uncategorized
“Definitely,maybe”-It definitely goes in my list of top romantic movies.
I have been wanting to watch this movie from a long time. Finally got to see it.
Three women, three relationships-twists and turns, just goes to show how complicated
“Love” can be!!
It starts off with a daughter whose parents are on the verge of getting divorced wanting
to know all about how her parents met,how they fell in love, etc etc. Thus starts the
story, where the father describes the three women in his life and his relationships
with them.A child’s way of understanding and comprehending complications of
relationships has been shown well. The rapport between the father and daughter
is touching.Good performances, esp by Ryan Renolds and Abigail Breslin who’s so cute
and adorable makes it a very enjoyable movie.
P.S:Ryan, though initially may not strike as handsome,by the time you finish the movie
will be in love with him
P.S. I love you

to terms with the fact that he is no longer there finds help in the form of letters written
by her husband. In today’s technology driven world, the concept of handwritten letters
has almost become archaic. But this movie brings back the magic of letters…….
Step by step,he slowly helps her overcome her grief and start living again, helping
her find a new purpose and meaning to her life. All in all,a nice sweet movie
P.S:Thanks satisa for suggesting this movie
Serendipity

Serendipity…A fortunate accident..
As defined by Wikipedia:
“Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely”
Is it really accidental discovery?Or was it meant to be discovered at that precise moment by that particular person….,
Is there such a thing as co-incidence?Or r they signs?OR are they really wishful thinking on our parts…Misinterpreting harmless coincidences as “some sign”????

Some of the memorable quotes which I loved……Its a long list and yet it still does not cover all of them
……..
Forrest Gump
Mrs. Gump: Life’s a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you’re gonna get.”–Loved this one
Forrest Gump: What’s my destiny, Mama?
Mrs. Gump: You’re gonna have to figure that out for yourself.
Mrs Gump:Never let anyone tell you that they are better than you
Deja Vu
Doug Carlin: What if you had to tell someone the most important thing in the world, but you knew they’d never believe you?
Claire Kuchever: I’d try.
The Holiday
Amanda: You know Graham, I just broke up with someone and considering you just showed up and you’re insanely good-looking and probably won’t remember me anyway… I’m thinking we should have sex… If you want.
Graham: Is that a trick question?
ha ha….
Princess’s diaries
Eduard Christoff Philippe GĂrard Renaldi, Prince of Genovia: Courage is not the absence of fear but rather the judgment that something is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever but the cautious do not live at all.
Joe: [speaking to Mia] Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.—very true
My best friends wedding:
Michael O’Neill: Kimmy says if you love someone you say it, you say it right then, out loud. Otherwise the moment just…
Julianne Potter: Passes you by…
Michael O’Neill: Passes you by…
Notting hill
William: I live in Notting Hill. You live in Beverly Hills. Everyone in the world knows who you are, my mother has trouble remembering my name.
Anna Scott: I’m also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.
—-how cute is that?
Good will Hunting
Sean: Real loss is only possible when you love something more than you love yourself.
Sean: Maybe you’re perfect right now. Maybe you don’t wanna ruin that. I think that’s a super philosophy, Will, that way you can go through your entire life without ever having to really know anybody…
Loved this conversation:
************************************************************
Will: So, when did you know, like, that she was the one for you?
Sean: October 21st, 1975.
Will: Jesus Christ. You know the fuckin’ date?
Sean: Oh yeah. Cus’ it was game six of the World Series. Biggest game in Red Sox history.
Will: Yeah, sure.
Sean: My friends and I had, you know, slept out on the sidewalk all night to get tickets.
Will: You got tickets?
Sean: Yep. Day of the game. I was sittin’ in a bar, waitin’ for the game to start, and in walks this girl. Oh it was an amazing game, though. You know, bottom of the 8th Carbo ties it up at a 6-6. It went to 12. Bottom of the 12th, in stepped Carlton Fisk. Old Pudge. Steps up to the plate, you know, and he’s got that weird stance.
Will: Yeah, yeah.
Sean: And BAM! He clocks it. High fly ball down the left field line! Thirty-five thousand people, on their feet, yellin’ at the ball, but that’s not because of Fisk. He’s wavin’ at the ball like a madman.
Will: Yeah, I’ve seen…
Sean: He’s going, “Get over! Get over! Get OVER!” And then it HITS the foul pole. OH, he goes apeshit, and 35,000 fans, you know, they charge the field, you know?
Will: Yeah, and he’s fuckin’ bowlin’ police out of the way!
Sean: Goin’, “God! Get out of the way! Get ‘em away!” Banging people…
Will: I can’t fuckin’ believe you had tickets to that fuckin’ game!
Sean: Yeah!
Will: Did you rush the field?
Sean: No, I didn’t rush the fuckin’ field, I wasn’t there.
Will: What?
Sean: No - I was in a bar havin’ a drink with my future wife.
Will: You missed Pudge Fisk’s homerun?
Sean: Oh yeah.
Will: To have a fuckin’ drink with some lady you never met?
Sean: Yeah, but you shoulda seen her. She was a stunner.
Will: I don’t care if Helen of Troy walks in the room, that’s game six!
Sean: Oh, Helen of Troy…
Will: Oh my God, and who are these fuckin’ friends of yours they let you get away with that?
Sean: Oh… They had to.
Will: W-w-w-what’d you say to them?
Sean: I just slid my ticket across the table and I said, “Sorry guys, I gotta see about a girl.”
Will: I gotta go see about a girl?
Sean: Yeah.
Will: That’s what you said? And they let you get away with that?
Sean: Oh yeah. They saw in my eyes that I meant it.
Will: You’re kiddin’ me.
Sean: No, I’m not kiddin’ you, Will. That’s why I’m not talkin’ right now about some girl I saw at a bar twenty years ago and how I always regretted not going over and talking to her. I don’t regret the 18 years I was married to Nancy. I don’t regret the six years I had to give up counseling when she got sick. And I don’t regret the last years when she got really sick. And I sure as hell don’t regret missin’ the damn game. That’s regret.
[pause]
Will: Wow… Woulda been nice to catch that game, though.
Sean: I didn’t know Pudge was gonna hit a homer.
****************************************************************
Sean: You’re not perfect sport, and let me save you the suspense, this girl you’ve met she’s not perfect either. But the question is whether or not you’re perfect for each other.
Sean: So if I asked you about art, you’d probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written. Michelangelo, you know a lot about him. Life’s work, political aspirations, him and the pope, sexual orientations, the whole works, right? But I’ll bet you can’t tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You’ve never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling; seen that. If I ask you about women, you’d probably give me a syllabus about your personal favorites. You may have even been laid a few times. But you can’t tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy. You’re a tough kid. And I’d ask you about war, you’d probably throw Shakespeare at me, right, “once more unto the breach dear friends.” But you’ve never been near one. You’ve never held your best friend’s head in your lap, watch him gasp his last breath looking to you for help. I’d ask you about love, you’d probably quote me a sonnet. But you’ve never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable. Known someone that could level you with her eyes, feeling like God put an angel on earth just for you. Who could rescue you from the depths of hell. And you wouldn’t know what it’s like to be her angel, to have that love for her, be there forever, through anything, through cancer. And you wouldn’t know about sleeping sitting up in the hospital room for two months, holding her hand, because the doctors could see in your eyes, that the terms “visiting hours” don’t apply to you. You don’t know about real loss, ’cause it only occurs when you’ve loved something more than you love yourself. And I doubt you’ve ever dared to love anybody that much. And look at you… I don’t see an intelligent, confident man… I see a cocky, scared shitless kid. But you’re a genius Will. No one denies that. No one could possibly understand the depths of you. But you presume to know everything about me because you saw a painting of mine, and you ripped my fucking life apart. You’re an orphan right?
[last lines]
[he reads a note from Will: "Sean, if the Professor calls about that job, just tell him, sorry, I have to go see about a girl."]
Sean: Son of a bitch… He stole my line.
This left me laughing at the end of the movie…..
Rocky Balboa
Rocky:”It ain’t over ’til it’s over”
Marie:It doesn’t matter how this looks to other people. If this is something you gotta do, then you do it. Fighters fight.
Rocky:
Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!
Rocky:(In the courtroom)
I appreciate that, but maybe you’re looking out for your interests just a little bit more. I mean you shouldn’t be asking people to come down here and pay the freight on something they paid, it still ain’t good enough, I mean you think that’s right? I mean maybe you’re doing your job but why you gotta stop me from doing mine? Cause if you’re willing to go through all the battling you got to go through to get where you want to get, who’s got the right to stop you? I mean maybe some of you guys got something you never finished, something you really want to do, something you never said to someone, something… and you’re told no, even after you paid your dues? Who’s got the right to tell you that, who? Nobody! It’s your right to listen to your gut, it ain’t nobody’s right to say no after you earned the right to be where you want to be and do what you want to do!… You know, the older I get the more things I gotta leave behind, that’s life. The only thing I’m asking you guys to leave on the table… is what’s right.
The Holiday
by Rashmi on Feb.11, 2007, under Uncategorized
There is a time in your life when you have hit that low phase and all you want is to run away,to escape.Imagine if you could do that, just go to a new country, new place and lead someone else’s life for a few days.Thats what “The holiday” is all about. Two women who have been unlucky in love,in a desperate attempt to escape from their worlds, agree to exchange their homes and find something they never thought they would…
One woman who always thought that she could never love someone, who leads a life where everything is under her control, who runs away from anything remotely complicated suddenly finds herself in falling in love(That one really complicated emotion). On the other hand, you have this other woman who loves a loser and a total jerk who slowly finds the “Gumption”
This isn’t a heavy melodramatic tear jerker.This is a romantic comedy.A nice sweet movie,which keeps u laughing….

P.S:And Jude Law is ofcourse an added incentive to watch the movie, atleast for the girls
